I'm actually from California, but a previous engagement forced me to miss the LA show and travel to see them...twice! Being only 12 when Hymn Of The 7th Galaxy was released I never saw them live, so I looked forward to these shows with great anticipation. We did the Return To Forever platinum package for both shows so seating, viewing and sound for both shows was incredible! The sound check and pre-concert party was first class as well! Chick orchestrated everything, and pushed members to continue soloing...as if they needed it! Stanley was the funky powerhouse he'd always been, and his acoustic solo during Romantic Warrior was mesmerizing! Lenny played with a restrained power that for me was almost too controlled! Don't get me wrong, he was terriffic, and I've always loved his playing, but I got the impression that at times he was holding back. Hopefully, as the shows progress he plays with a bit more urgency. What can I say about Al? He was incindiary! He truly seemed to love blowing away the audience with his ferocious arpeggiated solos. Every time he made a pass, the audience's collective jaws dropped further to the floor! The highlight of both shows for me was the lengthy trading of solos between all members during both Song To The Pharoah Kings, and Dual Of The Jester & Tyrant. The Phoenix show added a fun sing along with chick on his portable synth, followed by a spectacular version of Spain! I will cherish my memories of both shows, and look forward to a live CD and DVD, to relive the glory over and over again!
