They say good things come to those who wait, and for those of us who have been waiting to see Return To Forever live, the wait is over, and it is a good thing! From the opening bars of Hymn Of The 7th Galaxy to the final note Medieval Overture. Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola & Lenny White, collectively known as Return To Forever put on a show that was well worth the wait. The demographic of the audience was mostly middle-aged men, supporting Lenny White's statement that "in this era of Boy Bands, Return To Forever is a Man's Band". There was also lot of young people in attendance, many of whom were not even born when Romantic Warrior was first released in 1976. It's always refreshing to see young people embracing the music from the past.
All four band members made it look effortless as they wove the complex melodies and rhythms that make up their trademark sound. Each player had the chance to address the audience between songs, providing a little humor and showing their personal side. The music was flawless and it was nearly impossible to tell that it had been twenty-five years since these four musicians last graced the concert stage together. At different points in the evening each band member played a solo, demonstrating why it is "No Mystery" that each member of this band is virtuoso on his respective instrument. The band members made the night even more memorable for some, taking time to sign autographs for eager fans during the curtain call. All-in-all this was a great show, well worth the wait. The only thing that could have possibly made the night better was if they stayed and play for another couple of hours.
